To be honest, it is likely going to be tough to pass any referendum to increase taxes in Calgary. We do not like taxes here. However, if the project is deemed worthy enough it will be passed by the majority.
It makes city hall more accountable for their projects and gives the people a direct voice in how the money is to be spent.
This is democracy at it's purest.
