In the old days (Sorry to some of you, it seems like yesterday i am sure!) companies would invest in their own staff and train internally - often finding incrediably capable staff right out of high school not to mention university.
Now they seem to want everyone to have 10+ years experience and yet are not willing to start giving experience to anyone.
Is it any surprise that there is this so called shortage?
I too find myself in a similiar situation to many of you. Where getting any good 'in', finding someone to take a chance on you despite the fact you are not an engineer (or have engineer parents), are not specifically trained for the job in question yet have the mental abilities and past experiences to learn it within hours, days, or at worst months, is impossible despite the fact there is this MASSIVE shortage of skilled workers. For god sakes, i would work for free for an extended period if it meant i was trained internally for a GOOD oil and gas (or environmental, logistical, securities, or whatever) job.
