I work as a consultant for a small company involved in O&G, and my compensation is based solely on an hourly rate, no benefits. Over the course of the last year I've gone from being relatively green as is expected for your first 6-12 months of employment in a new position, to successfully leading projects at client offices.
The one kicker is that this isn't what I want to do for a career, it is simply paying the bills at the moment and I would like to squeeze it for every last drop before I move onto something else. Selfish I know, but even if I am planning on finding something else, I still feel that I deserve higher compensation for the increased responsibility I've taken on.
