This will sound really stupid. But in rugby kicking off to the team who just scored doesn't seem to make sense. I understand it's a game of territory and with teams that are of even strength, kickng off and gaining 30-40 metres makes sense.
But when NZ plays Japan it's all one way and Japan never gets the ball.
NZ scores -> Japan kicks to NZ -> NZ scores -> Japan kicks to NZ -> repeat
It doesn't matter about territory, NZ could be 1000 metres from the goaline and still score a try.
