That would be great if we were talking about those addictions...but we are not. Considering the dependence rating (higher than heroin, cocaine, alcohol, caffeine, and marijuana - dated study and I am not sure if it has been changed/updated) I think it is relatively safe to assume that you will not get a reasonable/rational answer from smokers. It basically comes down to rationalizing an irrational act.
