-- If the business can't sustain one $30 spoiled cake, to the point where they have to harass potential customers for days on end, then they should invoke a deposit policy. That's their own stupid. I'm sure it happens to pizza places frequently, and any business that acts in a professional manner won't go spamming their callers. By not taking a deposit, they bear the risk that the customer won't return. Period. It was bound to happen some time.

-- They are complete fools if they think phoning me 100 times a day will make me want to cooperate with them. At some point, they must realize that their attempts are futile, and they must be wasting their time just to try to spite me. I personally find it laugh out loud funny.

Judge me, vilify me; Call me cheap, loserish; Disapprove, frown, laugh; Whatever. I hope you were at least amused by the story.

Ah the indignant semi whiny, no one likes me or even really believes me so I'm going home . . . that's it chap keep a stiff upper lip.

A lot of your story just rings as not believable and you didn't help your credibility at all by distorting key details. So right now, I don't believe your 80 or 96 call in 12 hours or whatever story, I think maybe you got 10 calls or 5 and exaggerated it because you were angry and wanted sympathy here.

Your whole blaming the business policies for you screwing them is equivalent to someone slapping around a neighbor and blaming him because he was standing to close to your lawn.

To me, you acted like a spoiled brat and a spoiled customer and your whole potential customer thing is laughable because frankly, I'm pretty sure that they don't want you as a customer, and I have to tell you, if I ran any type of business, I either wouldn't want you as a client because I couldn't trust you, or I'd charge you an extreme premium on anything custom and want all of the money up front.

In fact if I was running a business, I would give you the name of my competitors because there's nothing wrong with driving bad business to a competitor.

But here's the litmus test that I'm curious about.

Go to your girlfriend and tell her the truth. Tell her that you originally decided to order her a customized cake from a high end oriental bakery, that they agreed to make you this cake and trusted you enough to act like a mature human being not to ask you for a deposit.

Then you changed your mind and decided to get her a Cake from Safeway, left a voice mail with the bakery to cancel their custom cake. Then when they called you after you failed to pick up the cake, you couldn't be bothered to return their voice mail til the next morning, meanwhile that custom cake probably went into the trash at some point.

I doubt that she'll think you're a hero.

I'm really curious to see if you told her the cake story, or did you go into the house with a Safeway cake and leave it at that because you knew that on all fronts you were a world class jerk?

The bottom line is that you deserve every bit of criticism that your getting on this thread because I think you started this thread thinking that you were going to get massive sympathy and you would be able to feel better about yourself.

For the most part CP is a good place to ask for honest advice and feedback, but it can be too brutally honest for some peoples own good.

So take your ball, stiffen up that back, stop that that lip from trembling, and blow your nose. Go forth, go back to the shop and slap at least 20 dollars down on the counter, the say "I'm sorry that a screwed over a small independent business, I'm willing to pay half, but you can't call me that many times" then go forth and sin no more.
