Are you refering to the old school 80's style boom boxes? If so, those things sell crazy fast. Check out craigslist, people buy them broken to repair and resell. Some get up to $200 a pop. They've even started making brand new ones that have ipod docks and such.

Payday loans. 23% on every hundred out here in BC, every 2 weeks. Used to be higher until the government said no.
Lots of people use it. I've had to when I was younger and not so smart. Some people can't or don't have bank accounts cause they've messed things up.
Oh and money mart is on the gold buying train as well. Against the bylaws in the town I live in, but no one does a damn thing about it.
