Philly06Cup says "OK" and the baker trusts him, not even asking for a deposit. He's old school, takes someone's word.
The baker is working hard to meet all orders on time, he doesn't even pause to answer the phone. This is a small hole-in-wall shop.
Philly06Cup took advantage of the baker, trying to save 30 bucks, and the baker got burned. The baker overreacts for sure, and should probably avoid handshake deals, but just because he got burned before doesn't mean he should adopt the philosophy of "trust nobody". It also doesn't mean he needs to insist on a deposit every time. If something happened to me like Philly06Cup has relayed, I'd tell the baker, "sorry you didn't get my message, here's your money, thanks for working fast". This baker is probably rarely burned, and is really angry because Philly06Cup took advantage of his good nature.
The short of this is Philly06Cup is a loser, and the baker wasted his time trusting him.

Agreed.
This isnt some mega chain bakery where they could easily dump a custom made cake and call it a loss. It's a small business, where every sale counts towards someone's livelihood. 20 minutes in from when you first called, they could be halfway in making your cake
I'm beginning to wonder if Philly06Cup was actually called 80 times. I'm betting the real story was that it was probably somewhere like 5 -6 calls and Philly06Cup stretched it to "80 times" to make the bakery look asinine. If that's the case, Philly06Cup is a bigger loser for trying to ruin the reputation of a mom and pop business for what was originally his own fault
