The better news: There's a bumper crop of cool offerings this year, from studio albums by Wilco and Tom Waits to a Metallica-Lou Reed collaboration and the Mick Jagger-Dave Stewart-Joss Stone supergroup SuperHeavy.

The worse news: As of now, that list doesn't include Rush's Clockwork Angels, a new Van Halen-David Lee Roth album, ZZ Top's long-awaited disc with Rick Rubin, No Doubt's much-anticipated return and Dr. Dre's endlessly delayed Detox.
