Happens to all models I am sure. Well, two from my experience.

True burn-in is literally extinct in newer plasmas.

Completely and utterly false. Two separate plasmas that I have owned within the past 11 months have gotten permanent burn in. Even with 200 hours of proper break in with slides, recommended by the folks at avsforums.
The question I always ask people is why they would ever want a plasma in the first place? I am by no means a videophile, and I can't tell the difference between LED, LCD, and plasma picture quality. That applies to sports as well (well, hockey anyway). I now own a 47" LG LED and it is beautiful. Not to mention the screen isn't glossy like a plasma so it is far more versatile in lighting conditions.
Plasmas IMO aren't worth the worry and constant babying. I have had several people on these and other forums tell me that they have never, ever had a problem...but then proceed to tell me that they never watch anything letterboxed and/or take breaks from certain formats on their display. I never have to concern myself with such precautions with my LED, and I didn't have to break it in either.
And for the record, I went through a series of television purchased at Costco and each one of them had a defect. I don't know if it is the way they transport them, or the fact that the models themselves differ slightly from the ones sold at stores like Visions, Bestbuy, Futureshop, etc. You can always notice that the same TV at Costco has a slightly different product code, and must be made exclusively for that store on the production line. Whatever it is, I will never trust their quality again.
This is all just my opinion based on some of the experiences I have had in the last year trying to buy a television. Good luck, and I hope you find something you can enjoy and appreciate!
