Can't there just be indicators of him being sad at work while he goes about his usual day while Mrs. Ari & the fam slowly fade into irrelevance? Does it really need to be the main storyline of the season?

I've just never liked the family side to him, I don't think it makes sense to his character. I liked the sleazeball Ari from the first couple seasons. I wonder if he originally was always meant to be that way, but then Piven started winning awards for the character and Ellin may have thought he should give the character more substance and heart.

And just as an aside, I'm not one to repeatedly bash Entourage. Outside of this whole divorce thing I don't really have any complaints about the show. It's clearly not what it was the first 3 seasons, but I still enjoy it.
I think its been mentioned a few times in interviews with Piven and the writers that he was originally going to be the sleazeball you think. Cheating on his wife and what not (there's a couple early mentions of this happening). But They decided that Ari was going to be all about the business. He is fantastic at what he does, but in the end he loves his family.

I think its a nice contrast for the character to be this super-powerful business man at work and then comes home and has to answer to his wife. Its made for some pretty funny moments. If this wwasn't the case you wouldn't have all the therapist room breakdowns that have made Ari what he is.
