This is funny. I can't speak for all trades but I can verify it is used as a unit of measurement in the oilfield.
I had a desk job for 2 years after I got my business degree but I left it for the patch 10 years ago.
Labour jobs are hard work but much more gratifying.
Being able to yell profanities all day is also a nice perk. Try that at your desk tomorrow.
