ISLANDERS FLOUNDER WITH MINISCULE 11 SHOTS ON GOAL

Tomas Vokoun reaches as Nashville forward Sean Brown maneuvers
around him to score the game's fourth goal.
NASHVILLE - The New York Islanders surrendered 36 shots on net while firing 11 of their own Sunday evening in a losing cause against the Nashville Predators.
Sunday's game between the New York Islanders and Nashville Predators had the makings of a classic duel as players from both teams had the chance to face off against their former teammates. Most of the time, these types of matches end with the traded players making valiant efforts to prove to their former clubs that it was a mistake to trade them.
Kristian Huselius made his point, scoring once and adding two assists on the night before being named the game's top star.
Former Predators however, including Tomas Vokoun, Paul Kariya, and Fedor Tyutin did not fare as well in the game leaving the hometown Predator fans happy with the outcome, and perhaps even the trade just a week ago.
Newly acquired Jason Allison opened the scoring in the first beating Vokoun with a wicked shot from the slot for his 13th of the season as Patrick Elias and Willie Mitchell added helpers.
The middle stanza would see no scoring as Tomas Vokoun stood on his head stopping 11 shots to preserve the one-goal deficit, but his efforts received no response from his teammates as they came out in the third flat-footed allowing 15 shots against, firing only 3 of their own, surrending four more goals en-route to a 5-1 walloping thanks to goals from Kristian Huselius, Sean Brown, Ed Jovanovski, and Jason Allison again with his second of the game.
Chris Drury was the lone Islander to light the lamp Sunday scoring his 25th of the season while on the ice killing a penalty.
Disgusted with their effort, the team held a "players only" meeting at the game's conclusion and closed the lockerroom for the first time this season allowing no media in for post-game questions and thoughts.
With their foes around them gaining ground in the heated playoff race in the Gretzky Conference, the Isles need to come back strong on Tuesday night when they'll do battle against the Chicago Blackhawks in Long Island.
Game Notes - The eleven shots fired in Sunday night's game was a franchise record for least number of shots for... Derek Roy, who saw little icetime on Sunday made sure the coach wouldn't play him much more after his third period head-butt on former Islander Kristian Huselius... After serving his penalty he spent the rest of the game with his behind firmly planted on the team's bench... Fedor Tyutin was a disappointing -2 on the night playing just over 22 minutes in the game.
