Oilers forward Shane Doan throws an insult towards former GM Sylvanfan
The Oilers certainly had this date circled on their calender. It was a day in which they had a chance to get back at the man who ruined their franchise. It was their chance to make Sylvanfan pay for his mistakes that ultimately lead to him being fired after last year. Although it was slow in developing they did eventually accomplish their ultimate goal and the players couldn't have been happier. Every player to a man had some type of comment about the man who is without a doubt the most hated GM in the CPHL.
As for the game itself, the Devils did score the games first goal as Arron Asham made it 1-0 after one period. But the Oilers rallied in the second period for goals from Nikolai Zherdev and Shane Doan. The Oilers tied the game briefly at the beginning of the third on Eric Cairns PP goal, but Shane Doan than took control. The hulking power forward who Sylvanfan ironically paid a hefty price to aquire scored his second of the game to make it 3-2. Sergei Samsonov with his 30th, and Doan completing the hat trick with powerplay goals ran the final to 5-2. Mike Dunham looked rusty in his return as he was beaten 5 times on 32 shots. Brodeur was solid for the Oilers turning aside 28 of the 30 shots sent his way.
The Oilers players ownership and management all had something to say after the game about their highly loathed former GM. "I'm so glad to beat his stupid ass, he play so many mind games with me and my ex-wife last year, he the worst person on earth" quipped Martin Brodeur. "Yeah, what a loser. He totally failed to get us the guys we needed to win last year. Now I hear he lives in a box in New Jersey and trying to survive on nothing. While we're a bunch of rich Albertans who will all be getting $400 cheques from the government. I have some advice for him. Go find some Oil you welfare bum." Laughed Shane Doan. Others were more brief. "He suck, he loser" said Vincent Lecavalier. "Hopefully his cab crashes into the river" remarked Jay Bouwmeester. "I can't believe he's still living yet alone working in this league. He's a garbage human being who shouldn't be permitted to be on this planet anymore" were the last parting shots from Peter Pocklington. Yes it appears that the City of Champions is feeling redemption today.
As for Sylvanfan himself, he simply stated that he felt his team put in a good effort and just fell short. His comments were bizarre and do indeed prove that he is certifiably nuts. "We hung in this one for a long time. We certainly want to get to where the Oilers are some day. Thats why our rebuilding process looks so extreme on the surface. I know they hate me badly around here, and that I certainly am unpopular in a of fot cities in this league. But theres 6 billion people on this planet so it won't hurt my feelings if some people dislike me. Theres still a lot of people who will be my friend."
