Believe it or not, the instructions from the ER doctor were to get back to weightbearing and using it as normally as possible, as soon as I could. So I did.

I do have a good brace, should I be wearing this continually or only when I have my ankle under heavy use?

I haven't gone to physio although I did get exercises from a coworker who is in the process of becoming a physiotherapist. I know this sounds lame but I haven't gone because it is ~$100 for an assessment and $60 for each visit thereafter and I just don't have the spare $$$ right now (and no health benefits at the moment).
Your ER doctor either mis-communicated, you misheard, or misdiagnosed you in a very bad way.

I'd wear the brace from when you wake up till you sleep.

Physio isn't necessary if it costs that much. Your coworker has told you all they will, so all you're missing is the free massages, and I think you'll survive without.
