I'd try dropping down to zero encryption, and see what happens. If that succeeds, move up to WEP encryption, and try again. If that succeeds, step up to WPA or WPA2 encryption.

It is possible (although unlikely...but definitely possible with 10.4) that it can't speak the WPA that the router wants to talk.
