Most of the "common" colors (ie. builder's "standard" colors) will
already be in the "match file" of most of the larger paint suppliers. Almost any color can be closely approximated, regardless of variations in paint chemistry.
As for a "match' in another line of paint, where you can "touch up" in the middle of a wall? Nope...not gonna happen.
Glidden/CIL(ICI) makes very good paints,
but if you bought a house painted by the builder's contractor...well, you probably got the standard "mid-line" (ie "Walmart") paint. I could never figure this out...the paint is the
cheapest part of the job. Why commit
reputational suicide, just to save $30-40 a 5'er on paint?
Mind you...the builder takes the heat (and gives
you the "it is what it is" line)...still, it's wrong; on so many levels.
