I have to disagree. Every piece of pop culture can be deconstructed, examined and critiqued in some way; it would be disingenuous to say that Hannah Montana does not say something about our society just as The Wire or The Sopranos do. Obviously it does not say the same thing, but there is a message there regardless.
From a cultural theory perspective, understanding popular culture is just as important as understanding "high culture"; nothing is purely fluff.
