I can't believe Charles Hardin Holley AKA Buddy Holly, has yet to be mentioned in this discussion yet.

Thought to be one of the single most influential people in early Rock and Roll. He only recorded 3 albums while alive and was really only successful for a year and a half before "The Day the Music Died"
