I've seen it all, most of the time they just blow right through it like it isnt even there, sometimes they even have the courtesy to hop the curb and ride on the sidewalk, through the crosswalk and then hop the curb back onto the road on the other side.
Talk about obeying laws when its convenient.
But never have I seen one stop. Because of the 'reality of being on a bike?' Do they not come equipped with brakes?
The problem with cyclists is because of this picking and choosing about obeying traffic laws they become unpredictable, and thats dangerous for everyone. Granted, moreso for the guy using spandex and lycra as 'safety devices.'
You want cars to move into the other lane when passing a bike on the road as they're a vehicle like any other? Great, then they cant just go straight to front of traffic at a red light any more than someone could drive their car on the curb all to the way to the front of an imaginary lane thats just for them, and then force all the cars to have to pass his slow ass. Again.
This 'reality of being on a bike' crap is wholly disingenuous. 'Its for our safety, we have to watch out for ourselves so we dont get killed by cars.'
It wouldnt be a problem if you followed the rules and were predictable. Its the wild running of traffic signs and jumping in and out of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian thats dangerous.
This whole 'we have to do whatever it takes to maintain our safety because cars dont watch out for us, woe are we' attitide....thats the problem, not the solution.

Come out to Canmore in about a half an hour and you will see me stop at all the 4 way stops on Three Sisters Parkway. I stop everytime a sign or light tells me to on a bike or in a car, it's the same deal. Many cyclists obey the rules of the road. It's funny, I've been beeped at many times actually for stopping completely at a 4 way stop, because it then takes me a while to speed back up through the intersection.
