Maybe. FB has a lot of internet "real estate" ... and a pretty good software infrastructure as well, so they're more than just farmville and BS ads. And reputation, maybe not so much in the (older?) critical generation, but street crud in tech circles.
But ... they got to put their ignorance aside. g+ is going farther than wave, or buzz, or any other flops. And they're capturing market share, fast. Among general masses, google has always been a good guy, and facebook a bad guy. It wouldn't surprise me to see g+ dominate, but FB will not be bought out - this is a company run by nerds, not businessman. I could see FB trying to expand and move into other markets, maybe with their software infrastructure, but buyout? Unlikely... not for the so called "biggest IPO in history" FB.
