I guess it sounds like they are using Friday the same as the traditional UFA signing period - you can't speak with another team's pending UFAs until the signing period begins.

Looks like I was incorrect - any team can speak with any UFA/RFA/etc, but no offer sheet or contract can be offered until Friday.
