British media is having a field day with this news item. Following the ups and downs (mostly downs) of B-list celebrities is a cultural obsession in the UK. There is a twisted fascination that people have with seeing public figures at their absolute worst - and Winehouse was always in the papers for less than auspicious reasons.

Sadly this will change little if anything as the Pete Doughertys, Kerry Katonas and Katie Prices of the world personally implode in full-public view with millions lapping it up.

I don't lament the demise of Amy Winehouse - I lament the fact that this is the way society is.
