There's sharing an opinion that you think global warming isn't real or that Republicans in the US are causing a lot more harm than good with religious extremism, and then there's saying you're glad someone who never caused you harm is dead. Even as a joke it's just not that funny.
One of these things just isn't like the other and would likely alienate a few people as they try and sort out why you would say that.
