Starting in the CHL is a neat idea, but with the ratings at that level I would imagine players getting pretty frustrated awfully quick. Adding, what, 12 career levels seems a little pointless...unless there is more to it than getting a card. New coach tasks might add to the game, as long as they aren't as poorly incorporated as the current ones.
I haven't played this mode in a long time, but I am pretty sure you can sim to your next shift already. I may be wrong on that. Action tracker is a good start, but sounds pretty generic and useless at current development.
Of course that is all based on a one minute video, but color me unimpressed at the new game. If the AI is indeed significantly improved, that would be the saving grace for me. The features are falling flat outside of that.

Nope, you can't do that. Adding it could be a big help, but it depends on how it works in with the rest of the game. Simming allows you to be a 4th liner and not spend 20 minutes doing nothing, but unless the goals are in line with what should be expected from a 4th liner players will just put themselves out there all the time (another issue, coaches should send you out on shifts as opposed to you having the ability to call for a change). I'd love the ability to start out as a limited minute player and build my role with a team to the 20 minute a night level, it would add a relaism that's lacking. NBA 2K11 did a great job of this, I started my season as a 5-7 minute guy and only got more minutes due to trades and injuries. Put up big numbers and climbed the depth chart (and also found myself bumped down when my play wasn't great). Something like that coupled with a goal based system that makes sense could really make BaP a great mode.
