Suits need to be tailored. Off the rack suits are made baggy in order to fit as many people as possible. Tailoring is not only hemming the pants and sleeves, as moores would have you believe.

Find a suit that fits in the shoulders, and then take it to an actual tailor.

Indochino allows you to provide measurements to make a suit for you. A lot of times, this is much better than buying off the rack.

Black pants worn with a shirt for business casual, fine.

Black suit worn with any shirt is not acceptable business wear. Black is formal. Black is worn to weddings or funerals or dinner parties.

Charcoal or Navy blue are much more versatile suits than a black suit. Navy blue can be worn with basically anything. Can even do black or brown shoes and belt. Doesn't matter.
Now, I know for a fact that you've tried Indochino, and didn't like it. What do you think about it as an entry-level suit for the OP?

Really, if you don't care about the clothes, but want an OK suit, I think Indochino is probably the way to go.
