Superman, Kal-El, is born on Krypton which has humonid habitants known as Kryptonians. Their planet it under a red sun, thus their abilities are identical to humans on Earth.

However, when you take a Krypton and put them on a planet under a yellow sun (i.e. Earth) they have special superhuman powers. Superman's powers are a result of being raised on Earth, his human personality traits are a result of his upbringing by Jonathan and Martha Kent his Earth parents.
