Quick question about buying a bike (or car I suppose) in the US...once I buy the bike by private sale...what do I do about driving it back for registration/insurance?

I assume I call my insurance company and let them know...

Do I have to get some kind of temporary transportation plate? Do I get that from Oregon or Canada?

All the info I can find on the web seems to focus on other importing details.
