I agree, part one was so frickin' slow! I've only seen one of the movies at the theater, and will wait for this one to come out on disc, but I can't say I'm really looking forward to part two after the last one. I still think it was a greed-fueled move to split the last book into two movies.
As for the Harry Potter franchise, I've read the books, let myself get caught up in the whole phenomenon--it's kind of like the Star Wars for the next generation, and it will be somewhat sad to see it all end.
On a whim, we headed down to McNally Robinson (RIP) during the 7th book's launch. It was quite amazing and I wouldn't even call myself a die hard Harry Potter fan in the least.
