I have a feeling there will be a lot of holes left open at the end of this movie to allow Warner Bros to decide what direction they want to go with the next movie.
The crumbling walls of Gotham, the "he will be broken" in the trailer all lead me to believe that this movie will end with Gotham being overrun by the "criminals" and "crazies" while Batman lies in a bed due to having his back broken by Bane.
It's an ending that would be predictable for Batman fans but one that would be unexpected and shocking for the casual fan who just watches the Batman movies.
It seems like a direction that Nolan would be willing to take just because you never see the Superhero defeated in Superhero movies and Nolan likes to be different.
