They're not.
No critic is telling you what you should or shouldn't like, only what they personally think is a well-crafted film or not. Sites like RottenTomatoes aggregate dozens of different reviews in one place so you can easily see the critical consensus. That said, there's a pretty good chance professional film critics are capable of forming more informed opinions about movies than you. Roger Ebert (who is himself an unabashed fan of action and sci-fi films
when they're made properly) had this to say about people who enjoyed Transformers 2:
