Salmon live in the ocean and return to rivers only to spawn and die. Some salmon return to fresh water for a couple of years before they spawn but they are extremely rare and would be considerably smaller than their ocean counterparts. There should be no excessive contamination in Salmon, the higher in the food chain the higher the concentration of toxins. Whales, dolphins, sharks, etc would contain high levels of toxins if there where pollutants in the area.
