Now that I think about what you're saying I may have missed your point (in which case, my bad, I apologize and you may ignore my first paragraph). I naturally assumed that you were talking about gay-marriage and not political discourse.
According to your religious philosophies is it a mortal sin to have a politician vote against the party line if he/she believes that the party line is incorrect? Once elected is a politician forced into one viewpoint, and have to take the same stance on every single issue?
