I received a package weighing in at 1.5kg last week from the United States. It cost $13.40 to send. I re-used the box to send something back out to the US, weighting in at 1.2kg. It cost me $27 to ship.
Of course, this postal rep also argued with me on the merits of what is considered "lettermail" and ended up over-charging me on that too.
