The biggest issue I have with these starvation diets (aside from the obvious health risks they pose) is the fact that when you're off them you're going to gain the weight right back. You need a lifestyle change because obviously you were living a very unhealthy lifestyle that lead to the need to starve yourself.
You're much better off in the long run if you just consume about 1800 calories per day while dieting/exercising. Then when you get to your optimal weight just increase your caloric intake by a few hundred a day. There's a ton of research out there about crash diets where people get to their desired weight and then go back to their same bad habits before the diet.
Teach yourselves how to live healthy now and it will continue for the rest of your life. A great start would be to just eat 4-500 calories below your daily suggested level. You'll lose a pound a week. Do that for however long it takes to get to your desired weight and you'll be much better off in the long. It might take longer but it's much better for you.
