This is a very short-sighted view. Palin was not voted in as the governor of Alaska when their economy was spiralling into the toilet at a velocity not seen since the great depression. Obama has basically inherited the worst-case scenario thanks to the Bush administration and was expected to resolve it in a matter of weeks (you'd think, the way you hear some people ranting, anyway).
Palin was chosen to garner the the youth and female vote. Unfortunately, Obama garnered the same vote, as well as the votes of most people who didn't much care to vote previously because they felt they were really being given the choice of "Bowl of Poo #1" or "Bowl of Poo #2".
What's worse is that Palin demonstrated very publicly that she was not the sharpest tool in the shed. The risk of voting in John McCain (who many predicted wouldn't survive his first term) and ending up with "President Palin" was a scary thought.
