For a guy who preaches trading, signing those average UFA's really take away from trading overall. I can understand why the Sedin's will be given contracts. I can understand why Regehr would get one. I don't understand why someone would lock up a guy who had a bad NHL season, will rate down but is willing to lock them up for 3 years on a 1-way deal. You'd be better off releasing him to the UFA pool and offering him the same dollars but on a 2-way deal (Like what Joe did with Tim Thomas last year). It's better for your team and better down the road for the entire league to deal with 2-way contracts.
