i have heard the LP hundreds of times in my life, and not once ever did I come to that conclusion, but then again it wasnt worth my time to analyze it as such as I never gave that stuff a second thought.

Different people interpret it differently. A more liberal interpretation is the kingdom of god is in our hearts. Or some say thy kingdom come is a metaphor for subjection of will to God.
To me Jesus was an apocalypticist, and the context of the time was the imminent destruction of the world of men was close at hand and Jesus would soon return to usher in the Kingdom of God, which a good number of Christians still believe.
Not to mention the other parts.. "thy will be done", abdication of self to the totalitarian rule.
Or the notion of sin and God being the one to forgive them.
There's lots not to like
