But I didn't say he sucks, I just said that so far he is still pretty much a one hit wonder, and it's been eight years since that happened. Note that after Buffy ended, Angel didn't last either, and the only thing he came up with since (in the moving pictures media) are a couple of flop serieses and a somewhat popular short internet humour-piece.

(Dr Horribles sing-a-long was okay, but I couldn't bother myself to keep up with it all the way. I've also read one album of the comic Fray (I think the first one), and while it was an okay read, it had nothing in it that made me want to read more.)

Also of important note: Whedon's three films so far (either as a writer or a writer/director) are Buffy the Movie, Alien Resurrection and Serenity. First almost killed a franchise before it was born, the second put a long stop to one of the more succesful scifi/horror franchises and the third one came after the franchise was basicly dead already.
Angel didn't end because it wasn't popular, as it was very popular. It ended because of cost production. The final season they put them into the building so they didn't have to shoot at night and pay overtime to everyone. In the end they Told Joss to wrap it up because believe it or not, the set even in the daytime ended up doubling the cost compared to shooting at night.

Again, Firefly was not his fault but Fox the networks. It's popularity to this day tells us this. You can't get people hooked if they have no clue when a show is going to be on. It's not like today when we can watch things on the network website or on demand.

Joss also stated that the final product you saw on Dollhouse was not his. Fox made him change it to the single episodic crap that it was. Hence he left TV.

I loved Buffy the Movie... It was fun. Never saw Alien Resurrection, and the movie Serenity got done because it was demanded by the people (Joss made a good product).

Dr Horrible was so popular that NPH made a special appearance at either the Oscars or Golden Globe to massive cheers.

I love his dialogue. Maybe I will watch Alien Resurrection but me and scary are not unlike oil and vinegar. Unless your The Walking Dead, but I still hide behind my woman watching that. I think he is going to do VERY well with Motion Pictures as he can get more control. We shall see.

Never got into Lost, but I like Fringe, and I liked The X-Files.

IMO you can break down the movie watcher into two main types. 1. The Eye Candy CGI, explosion flim maker, or the Michael Bay/James Cameron types. 2. The Dialogue Driven like Tarantino, Zwick, Whedon or even Darabont (for his "horror"). Even Christopher Nolon is more dialogue driven than Action and his last films were heavy in action... But Nolan is a movie making wonder. His movies still have great story telling and he does not go to ludicrous levels with the eye candy and explosions.
