If Ryan Howse has been unmotivated up to this point, it means he can take his game to another level if he ever finds proper motivation. I'd rather have immature and talented coming through the system instead of mature and untalented. Part of development is working with players strengths and weaknesses to make them better players. A simplistic policy of casting away anyone with motivation issues is a recipe for disaster for any development program.
The license comment is irrelevant really as it can come from a lot of places. Fear, apathy, doesn't like to drive etc. Nothing to do with how he plays hockey.
