Default Lakeview Storm System Improvement Project

I drove past this project in North Glenmore Park yesterday and decided to learn more about it. It is pretty interesting.

Essentially the Lakeview community has had problems with flooding for the last 7 years or so. A investigation into this found that the culprit was that the storm water drainage was inadequate, owing to storm water drainage pipes that were too small.

Also, previous to this project, storm water drained directly into Glenmore Reservoir.

A project was undertaken to correct this. The project consists of increasing the size of the underground pipes carrying storm water and the addition of a "wet" pond to North Glenmore Park that the storm water will flow into, removing sediments and pollutants, before it flows into Glenmore Reservoir. This will obviously improve the quality of the water that flows into Glenmore, which is where we get a lot of our drinking water.

I thought the whole thing was interesting and had not heard about it before now so I thought I would pass along the information!

Spoiler!

In the image, PWL(dark blue) is the permanent water level. The pond is designed to be kept at a depth of at least 7-9 ft on a permanent basis. HWL(light blue) is the high water level.
