I don't know who says that, but they're two very different things. It's not clear-cut one over the other, it depends on your goals, current fitness, previous training, etc, etc.

It's very very difficult. In these threads all you hear about is the people who are currently successful who just started and really committed. There's a reason you only hear about 1 or 2 having maintained weight loss for a long time, because 95% of people gain it all back. The people who have gained all the weight back aren't particularly eager to come in a thread like this and talk about it.
