You sure your parents didn't go to a Gaelic Football game? Soccer is probably the 4th most watched spectator sport in Ireland after Gaelic Football, Hurling and Rugby and you'd be lucky to get 2000 at a game as opposed to 82,000 at the latter stages of the 2 national sports.Only time I can think of there being a half decent atmosphere at a soccer game in Ireland is during an international.
If you like hockey then try and fit a game of hurling into your plans. Not just for the sport but the pre and post match drinks which is a significant part of any gameday .... great way to meet locals.
