Everything I hear is that this show is gripping so I'm gonna have to give er another go I think.

maybe its because I have watched this thing from its inception and witnessed how the approach has changed from year 1 til now, but IMO its simply the most gripping and raw TV ever to hit the airwaves.
One has to remember that if you are just tuning in at some random point that these guys could be in a 3 week run living in a space the size of a hotel room with one another, little sleep, miserable conditions etc etc...and you see the predictable results of such.
To me Discovery figured things out pretty much after 1 season. Where this series started as a show about crab fisherman searching for their fortune and willing to risk their lives to do so, it quickly became apparent that was only the secondary part of what they were catching on film. It then became obout the human side of things and the stories each guy takes out on the water with them. The raw emotions of everything involved, culminated into what it then became...a true reality show that left nothing on the cutting room floor that mattered to either the participants or the viewers.
Its a formula that many others have tried to replicate on various channels ever since with a myriad of ideas and have never come close.
