Apple stuff holds it value really well (too well, in my opinion, but that's secondary to the rest of this post).

Over at Ars Technica, they talk about the "Jade Plan". The idea is to keep yourself on the newest hardware, and under warranty, for only a couple hundred bucks a shot, by buying each new hardware release, and then selling your old one while it still commands a decent price on the used market.

When you look at the cost of used Macbook Pro's on Kijijii and whatnot, if you want to stay cutting edge, and want to stay under warranty, you can do it for a fairly minimal ongoing outlay, as long as you keep upgrading when new models comes out.
