You should try to qualify between the business and consumer lines.

Makers know that for John Q Public the price is quite often the bottom line and they do everything they can to cut corners and make the price lower. They also know that while price is important, business users need reliability, If a business laptop fails on a business trip or during a presentation, that cost will override any savings.

So when you look at laptops, if "best" is more important than "cheapest", look at the business lines. You may wonder why the same specifications cost a lot more, but when your system still works fine 3 or 4 years down the road you will understand why.
