The difference between the two definitions provided are just opposite ends of a spectrum. They're both most certainly ideologies though.

So if I removed a pixel from the Mona Lisa, then obviously its no longer the Mona Lisa, its a theory of the Mona Lisa, cause we can't be certain with that missing pixel.
