We don't live by the ocean, so a train is going to be pretty much the largest moving thing you'll encounter on a daily basis. Not only that, but the damn thing is always in the same place, and has big old metal rails that let you know where it's coming from.
That's why I don't have a lot of sympathy for adults who get hit by a train, it's not like the thing should be able to surprise you.

Well... its not so much for the safety bit... there's too much congestion downtown as it is and moving it underground would help that a lot. The side effect is it'll be safer overall for pedestrians.
