The 91 year-old aunt of one of my self-described "old farm wife" clients says this one and the last few have been the worst combination of winters since either "1948-51 or 1949-52." She couldn't remember which.

I mentioned that to another oldtimer today and he remembered those winters well and agreed.

It really has been a pretty unusual last three winters but particularly this one.

I'd normally have green grass around the house right now and would be getting ready to cut down the 2.5 acres of tall grass I let grow through the summer . . . . but that's still under at least a foot of snow southwest of the city.

The snowpack in the mountains is about one-third deeper than normal.

It's certainly not unusual to get big snowfalls in March and particularly April and May. Two years ago, we had a big dump on June 6 I believe.

But I think I could go run in shorts and a tee right about now. Nice day.
