Scouts Canada reveals its first uniform redesign in more than 20 years on Friday, hiring clothing company Joe Fresh to bring the century-old organization into the modern era. The new uniform swaps the traditional beige and green stiff cotton digs for a splash of colour and a touch of fleece. Among the most sensational of the uniform changes, the Scouts have done away with their iconic sash.

As a parent and as a Beaver & Cubs leader, I can't say that I'm all that impressed with the new uniforms. I think they threw away too much tradition with losing the sash, and instead of a uniform it has turned into just an activity outfit. My older son, a second year Cub, doesn't like it. Sure there are still badges, but now they're sewing them on the arm instead - I can see a logistical nightmare coming when the kids outgrow their shirts and all badges have to be redone...
Has Scouts Canada gone too far?
